This book is hands down the best I’ve read on how a great story flows.  I’ve also attended Robert’s Story seminar in Los Angeles. It was an amazing experience, to say the least. If you’ve ever seen the movie Adaptation, there is a character based on McKee in it, brilliantly played by Brian Cox.  Don’t let the seeming focus on screenwriting fool you…the book/seminar is aptly named, because of what it truly focuses on: STORY. Highly recommend!

Our Mother is a vital, critical part of our emotional make up. How she treated us, how she interacted with us.  How she loved us and more importantly how loved or unloved we felt by her.

For Those Who’ve Never Had a Mother…

I’m not specifically talking to those who “just don’t get along” with their mothers…and occasionally have times when they don’t speak to each other.  At the end of the day, you do have that sense of the maternal looking out for you, whether you agree with her or not…

You still have a Mother.

I’m not necessarily talking to those whose mothers gave them up for adoption, and then they got adopted by a woman who raised them as their mother.  While your heart may grieve and wonder why your birth mother gave you away, the truth is…

You still have a Mother.

I’m not speaking to those who had a loving mother, and then lost her to disease, or a car accident, or some other tragedy.  While your grief and sense of loss may be unbearable at times…

You still have and had a Mother.

I’m not talking to those who were raised by another family member as their mother.  And, while you feel that the deception around it may be difficult to forgive, at least people around you cared enough to make sure you had someone to raise you as your “Mom”…

You still have a Mother.

No, I’m talking to those like me.  Those who were raised by a woman they know to be their biological mother.  And yet, somehow, and for some reason, she did not ever want you, make you feel safe, or let you know you are accepted and loved.

She’s made it clear that you are and were nothing but a burden in her life.  She’s let you know under no uncertain terms that she regrets having had you, and kept you.  This is confusing to you, because you are a good, healthy, intelligent kid.  You don’t know why she doesn’t love you.

So you try and try for years and years to melt the coldness in her eyes and have her at least once SEE you and acknowledge you as a valuable being.  But she cannot and will not do it.  Later, you realize, after much counseling that it is because of her and not you.

There is a certain sense of being unsettled when you know as a child that your own mother does not love you or want you.  That she has chosen to project all of her displeasure with her own life onto you personally, an innocent child.  When you know throughout your entire life that the one person who is supposed to love you unconditionally simply hates you…it changes you forever.

Sure, it’s hard with the Father archetype as well, but men are like that so we just sort of as a world society almost pass that off as men’s nature.  But, without a mother…it’s like you never can quite get the sense that you are safe in the world.  Or that you even belong in it….

So you watch other people go after their dreams, while you search around for that sense of self and grounded-ness that having a mother provides.  You can never seem to get “warm” enough, no matter how many layers of socks you put on, soup you consume, or logs you put on the flame.

No, we are a different breed altogether.  We must find our own sense of self, within the self.  So, I want you to pretend for just a moment…and really see if you can do this, because I have a message for you…

Pretend I am your Mother…your true Mother, who got separated from you somehow and you ended up with that wicked woman lying to you.

Forget about her for a second, and pretend…for I have a message for you, My Beautiful Child…

I am so proud of you, My Beloved Child.

I always wanted you, and I’m so joyful that you are in the world!!

All I’ve ever wanted was to see you happy, healthy, and living out your dreams.

My heart lights up whenever you enter the room.

I am always with you, every second of every hour, even in the darkest ones.

Whenever you miss me, I will appear.  Just lie down, and breathe deeply, and feel my fingers caressing your head and moving through your hair.

I am holding you in my arms and singing you to sleep.

You are totally safe with me, and I love you unconditionally.

My Beloved Child, My Blessed Child.

Chess, as the modern world has come to know it, took Europe by storm in the late 15th century.  It is derived from an ancient Indian and Persian game called Shatranj, developed sometime between the 3rd and 7th centuries. Since then, its popularity has increased all over the world, and with good reason.  Many schools actually include chess in their curriculum.  Herein ends the history lesson.

Let’s get to it. Without mincing too many words, allow me to list the many reasons why learning to play and actually playing chess with real people will make you a Star pretty much instantly.

• Playing chess is fun! And who couldn’t use more fun?
• Chess is easy to learn.  In fact, similar to puzzles, and card games like Solitaire, it’s an excellent way to develop speed learning skills across many congntive areas, not just chess itself. Once you know the basics, every game is a new frontier.
• As brain games and hobbies go, chess is one of the most inexpensive one you will ever find.
• Financial status, social status, age, gender…all do not matter with chess.  People from all walks of life, from different countries and nationalities can all bond together over a nice game of chess. A 100 year old can play with a 10 year old…and they don’t even need to speak the same language! What could be better?
• It gives that active, scattered, overwhelmed mind something to occupy itself with that is actually productive and stretches the mental muscles.
• Chess playing relieves mental stress.
• Chess can help you in sales, marketing, and any form of businesses or money-making by exercising the muscles in the brain that use strategies, forecasting, and brainstorming.
• Chess is addicting, in the GOOD way, for a change.
• People from all over the world play chess.  Your world will become much smaller, and more friendly.
• You will become quite popular…yep, you guessed it…a Star.

In an overwhelming world full of stress and information overload, what do we do to decompress in a healthy way?

We all feel it. We all have it.  We know how dangerous it is for our health, and quality of life to be stuck in negative emotions like anger, bitterness, despair, fear, etc.  It’s not like we don’t know hanging out too long in these states affects our lives negatively, but it can be a huge challenge to move past them when we are feeling them.

And, we’ve heard it all before:

Let go and let God.

Just let it go!

If you love something let it go and if it comes back to you it was meant to be.

At some point in time, we all have realized this truth: we’ve got to let it go.

But how?

There are several ways.  The answer is honestly whatever works best for you. I’ve spent thousands of dollars and hours.  In my exhaustive decades-long search, I’ve found a few authentic ways of letting go that work exceptionally well for me personally.  I chose methods that do not require drugs, alcohol, or anything that dulls it in that manner. To me that is just throwing gasoline on the flames. Maybe they will work for you too?

• The Release Technique-is a course/technique specifically on simple ways of releasing negative emotions safely, easily and quickly. You can do it on the spot, truly.  It works incredibly well, and I’ve been doing it for about ten years. This particular technique of releasing goes right to the source of what is bothering you and asks easy questions that you can remember. It is taught mainly by Larry Crane. My caveat with his course is that Larry is a native New Yorker, so his accent comes through strong, and it might sound like he’s being pushy. But honestly that’s just his accent! Don’t let that stop you. The man is serious about helping people achieve freedom from emotional and mental blocks. He has many free courses and things to try out first. It is my favorite of all of the ways of releasing, because it goes deep. It puts you deep into the authenticity of your true self. The link takes you to his site for more information.  It’s incredibly fast and easy to learn. If it resonates with you, try it.
• EFT-The Tapping Solution-off and on over the years, I’ve danced with Emotional Freedom Technique, an interesting technique that gently has you tap on specific meridian points of your body, saying a specific set of easy to learn phrases, while feeling the emotion you are moving through.  I don’t know why but suddenly this past year, I found a site that explains it so clearly that I almost felt bad for the teachers of a few years back, who made it so complicated. In fact, it’s not complicated AT ALL!  And it works.  The site is called the Tapping Solution, and it’s my favorite one of all on the subject.  They had a free online summit a few months back, and I attended many of those courses and wow. Amazing stuff.
• The post on Power Prayers, right on this site.
• Solfeggio Frequencies - are incredibly relaxing, and provide emotional healing on many levels, just by listening to them! These frequencies are on the vibrational music scale and are said to balance emotions quickly. I have to say, it’s true. My favorites are 417 hz and 528 hz. I try to drum up anger during the 528 hz track, and I really can’t! It definitely helps in “letting go” and releasing work, making it even easier. This link is my favorite place to get these recordings, blended with nice music. It is NOT an affiliate link or relationship. Just a cool thing I found recently.
• An article on this site I wrote containing a Mother Meditation has helped countless people to a cathartic decompress of pent up emotions.
• Bach Flower Remedies. Rescue Remedy is an all in one homeopathic remedy using flower essences to calm frazzled nerves and heal emotional upsets.  It’s quite safe, but obviously with this and the next few things I’m listing, please talk to your doctor first.
• If you are a woman over 35, you may actually be having an easily corrected hormonal imbalance that is causing way more emotional distress than normal.
• Tulsi (holy basil) tea. Is known as one of the most powerful adaptogens, and has been proven to lower cortisol (the stress hormone) naturally.  It can also be taken in capsule form, if you aren’t a tea person, or don’t like the taste of this particular tea.  I happen to love it. When you enjoy it in tea form though, it adds the warmth and makes you slow down. This is not the same as basil used for seasoning. Try it and let me know how you like it!
• Yoga.  Even the lightest amount really helps, most anyone can do yoga, regardless of fitness level.  We hold stress and negative emotions all bunched up in our body, and yoga is a wonderful, relaxing way to work those knots out, and provides deep emotional stress relief.
• You may need to release toxins from your body in a healthy way. The buildup of toxins effects our emotions exponentially. Let’s put it this way, when you feel better physically you feel better emotionally, right? Two proven healthy ways to detox (make sure to ask your doctor first) are: Drinking Wheatgrass Juice and The Lemon Cleanse (Master Cleanse)
• Breathing. You heard that right, just a few simple deep breaths does wonders.  Especially if I change physical position to standing upright, chest high. It’s so easy to just stop whatever you are doing and breathe. Try it!
• If you are near a loving animal or child, hang out with them. Pet therapy and pets and children in general, have a way of keeping it real, don’t they? Plus they make you feel like a SuperStar! If you don’t have a pet of your own, be a petsitter for someone. Or look at funny pet or giggling baby videos on youtube.  You get the idea!
• Get your hands in the dirt! Yes, gardening and growing your own food is a known stress reducer. There is just something so calming, centering and emotionally harmonizing about being in touch with the earth, and being nourished that way, whether through life-giving edible food, or through beautiful fragrant flowers that cheer you up instantly. This important negative emotion zapper can be done anywhere, anytime, even in small spaces. Try it!

This post is about something extremely personal and life-changing for me.  It’s about a subject I knew nothing about. Even though it’s perfectly natural.  No one ever told me.

I had no idea what could potentially come my way…until it hit me like a ton of bricks.  Until my entire world turned upside down two years ago, and I’ve been trying to stabilize it ever since.

But not before it wreaked such havoc in my life, I was actually contemplating suicide. It is called peri-menopause, and it’s a subject of such grave importance that I must put aside my lone wolf ways and talk about it.  I am going to share on this site what I only wish someone would have told me.

If even one woman finds this post and it helps her, I will feel on top of the world…

First of all, what is peri-menopause?  It’s the early onset of the hormonal changes that happen as a woman approaches the transition of her reproductive cycle.  This stage can happen over the course of 10, even 15 years prior to actual menopause.

Some women are completely asymptomatic.  Lucky ladies! Many of us, as early as our mid to late 30′s are having peri-menopausal symptoms.  I started having them at age 40, which is quite normal.  Only I did not know about this stage.  All I knew was that probably sometime in my 50′s I would go through menopause.  So, blindsided, I suffered alone with these debilitating health challenges:

• Heart palpitations / chest pain (thought I was having a heart attack)
• Itchy crawly skin from head to toe. (I would have bleeding scratchmarks all over myself from digging into my skin).
• My hair was coming out in large balls as I combed it
• Vertigo
• Mild hot flashes (which I though was a sensitivity to niacin, that I was getting the “niacin flush,” this is how slow on the uptake I was).
• Insomnia-severe
• Joints, bones severely aching
• Anxiety/Panic attacks out of nowhere
• Brain fog, Memory lapses
• Uncontrollable rage
• Off the chart PMS (I always had very normal, hardly any PMS symptoms before)
• Migraines
• Crying spells for no reason
• Inability to make clear decisions (lost my Spock-like logic I was famous for)

These are just a few of the more common symptoms.  And they were enough to turn my entire world upside down.  I thought I was dying.  It took me almost a year and a half to figure out what was going on, I kid you not!

Yes, there is an upside to all of this…

What I discovered was that my symptoms would be easily abated by simply balancing my hormones, specifically one called progesterone.  There is a ton of information out there about peri-menopause now, and more gets discovered every day.  I had the symptoms of estrogen dominance.

I decided to go with a natural wild yam supplement called Progestelle, which you can get below. This is not an affiliate link. I just want you to know about it, because I feel like this stuff helped save my life, or my sanity at the very least.

Progestelle - it is an oil that you rub into your skin at night.  That’s it. Couldn’t be easier.

I also take:

Evening Primrose Oil. This stuff is cheap, but wow, it works fast.

Maca: is an adaptogenic root out of Peru that women have been taking for centuries there. It’s so balancing for the hormonal system, that it is reported that the women there don’t even go through peri-menopause and their menopausal stage is practically asymptomatic!

Dietary: I had been eating edamame and many other soy based foods, rosemary, and taking lavender baths, which all have an estrogenic on the body, thus adding to the surplus. So those had to be eliminated…for now.

Wheatgrass juice: drinking wheatgrass juice either live, powder form, or even pressed caplet form has been extremely helpful in keeping my hormones balanced. I get it in my system any way I can, whenever I can.

THE RESULTS: Right away with the Progestelle and the EPO, the heart palpitations went away instantly.  I have not had one since then.  The itchy skin started subsiding right away, and was also almost entirely gone within a month.  My hair stopped falling out after about three months of progressively happening less and less.

Emotional healing: it also forced me to seek out the most advanced, effective, and rapid ways to overcome extremely negative emotional states. I absolutely had to! I could no longer shake them off like I used to. So that’s at least one good thing that has come out of it. What a relief!  I am starting to feel more and more like myself again. 

The other symptoms are dissipating as well.  It’s all a balancing act.

Here is the great part…

Now that I know what is happening, I know what to expect next, and I can head it off at the pass before the symptoms get too unbearable.  Remember how peri-menopause has too much estrogen and that causes all the problems?  Well, when a woman gets closer to menopause, she becomes estrogen deficient, the opposite problem, with the same symptoms coming back.

When I reach that point, I will simply take natural estrogen, and add edamame and rosemary back into my diet, and can take long lavender baths again, yay!

I know this is a brief post, but just like all of my other posts, I’m not trying to overwhelm people with too much at once.  Do your own research on this subject, if you think you might be going through it.  Or if you are a man whose wife, girlfriend, sister, etc. seems to be acting differently than she used to, or complains of these symptoms, tell her to get her hormones checked.  It’s important!

Learn a new language and become an Authentic SuperStar of your own life fast

• Learning a new language works certain cognitive functions of your brain.

Learning a new language can change your life for the better in these and so many more ways.  There are several methods to go about it, but if you are really pressed for time and money, pay attention to option number 3.

1. Take a language class at the local high school, college, or where ever it is being offered to you locally.
2. Learn language online. A relatively new, fun site is called www.busuu.com.  I’ve just started it, but it’s proving to be pretty fun. I haven’t learned as much and as quickly as I did via method number 3 though. But still…it’s a choice.
3. I found a heavily discounted site for Pimsleur Language Learning.  This is the method I use, due to it’s reputation as well as how fast it works.  It is used by the CIA, and FBI and agencies like that to learn a new language fast, and learn it in a way that appears natural, and also extremely conversational.  There are others, but the Pimsleur Method is my personal favorite.

It is a fact that when we feel better physically we feel better on every other level, like an authentic SuperStar.

Health challenges are the pits. Want to get rid of that sluggishness?  You have got to cleanse toxins out of your body. There is no way around this!

Speed reading is an ultimate, proven, and bonafide way of becoming a true superstar in your own life. It is also one of the fastest ways to do it. Here are only a few of the many reasons:

Now we have reached a subject near and dear to my heart, one of my favorite posts

Prayer has been proven over our known history as being a powerful and deeply personal StarMaker. For the purposes of this post, I will loosely define prayer as communion with a loving source higher than ourselves, with whom and to whom we surrender our deepest fears, concerns, as well as joys. Mankind has always needed to feel like there is something “out there” bigger than our problems, something that is conspiring for our good.

Doctors and the medical community are continually wowed by the power of prayer. It comforts us in our darkest hours. It helps give us that courage to persevere in difficult times. It reminds us that no matter how circumstances appear, we are loved, if we choose to believe it.

When more than one person gathers in prayer, it also forms a type of MasterMind (see my post on MasterMind).  I personally have seen what could be considered amazing miracles from people gathering in one accord. So for that purpose alone, prayer is generally something that can bind folks together instead of apart, and connects us.  It has a harmonizing, equalizing effect on the mind, body, and soul. It creates a powerful, cathartic emotional stress relief for negative emotions like angst, fear, dread, anger, you name it. This has all been proven.

If you are a person who doesn’t resonate with the concept of prayer, then please feel free to leave this post. It is okay that you don’t vibe with it, it is your prerogative. What I won’t allow is for negativity in the comments against those of us who do.  This is not about any religious doctrine in particular. It’s about the proven potency of prayer. I’m very protective of this post in particular, and I want to keep the energy high.  So any argumentative, dissenting, destructive comments will not be approved. Got it?

Okay, then let’s get to it, without further adieu, since this post is going to be a bit longer than most of them on this site, for obvious reasons.

I have selected some of the world’s most popular and powerful prayers.  They have all in some way gained momentum over the centuries, and you can enjoy the faith of billions, perhaps even trillions on each one. Automatically you are in a MasterMind with all who have sincerely prayed these prayers.  This is one of the main and specific reasons why I chose these, among so many greats.

Prayer of Jabez

Repeat this beautiful mantra/prayer, meaning “Peace,” and saying Shanti three times is said to have an instant calming effect. I have found this to be true.  Simple, I know…but try it for yourself and see. Remember, it is powered up by people over thousands of years. It works!

Wherever two or more are gathered in one accord with a common cause, a third mind is created, that is more powerful than either of the individual minds.

The MasterMind concept was introduced with that particular phrasing back in the 1930′s by a man named Napoleon Hill. A video of him explaining this concept is below.  For the purposes of this email, however, it is important to understand that this type of StarMaking has been done for as long as human beings have been around and had “minds.” Napoleon Hill simply coined a phrase and then a beautiful explanations for how to practically harness and use this powerful energy consciously and constructively.

To some, it is in the form of a “prayer chain.” See my post on Power Prayers, for examples of famous healing MasterMind intentions, performed en mass for centuries that you can easily tap into, regardless of your belief system. To others, maybe they call it a coven. Still others, a think tank. However you understand it or experience it, it is most likely you  have experienced the benefits and power of a MasterMind.

Why is understanding the MasterMind concept, and then actively participating in one or more, such a StarMaker? How does it make you a SuperStar?

• For one, and this fact has been known for as long as can be remembered, that “two heads are better than one.” You accomplish so much more than just going it alone.
• You get multiple viewpoints for your mutual goal, which always makes for better decision making.
• No one wants to feel alone! Being a part of a MasterMind group with a common goal meets a basic human happiness need to belong.
• Many great things have been accomplished with a small number of people without conflicting agendas.
• True Case Study: Back when I was a Headhunter, the President’s 3 year old son, Patrick was found facedown in the pool while on vacation. He was rushed to the hospital, and the prognosis was not good. He had been under way too long. Three other children were brought in that same day, also drowning victims. Patrick was in the worst shape of them all. The President called upon all of us, and we all spread the word to immediately and continually pray for Patrick, who was in critical condition, and the next 24 hours were going to decide everything. Phones rang, emails were sent. It was before twitter so tweets didn’t happen, but word still spread like wildfire. We all set one focused attention on that spirited little 3 year old boy being 100% recovered. That day I was having my wisdom teeth extracted, but all I could think about was Patrick. That Sarah MacLachlan song came on…”You’re in the arms of the angels…” I pictured Patrick being healed by angels all around him, oblivious to the drilling, cracking, and so forth that was going on. The result: 24 hours after the “prayer chain” began, the news came that Patrick had made a 100% recovery, which utterly baffled the doctors. They all exclaimed it was a miracle, even at the hospital.  Unfortunately the other three children did not make it, even though they were given better odds than Patrick. Two days after his accident, they brought Patrick in to say hi to all of us, and he was chipper and happy as ever.  Okay I’m crying all over my keyboard just remembering it. Just crazy luck or the power of a MasterMind of 300 people focused on one singular goal accomplishing a miracle in 24 hours? You decide if it was a coincidence or not.  But what if it wasn’t?
• The thing about the MasterMind is that it works the best when there is a goal that is harmonious for the all. Something about the laws of nature kind of come together in a way that creates amazing things.
• Many smart people have used MasterMinds to build, expand, and even create a new business, with great success.
• As smart as we all like to think we are, there is no way we all have all the pieces to a given scenario. But a carefully chosen MasterMind would.
• Napoleon Hill talks about a fun way to use the MasterMind. He formed an imaginary one with greats like Abraham Lincoln, Einstein, and so forth, and to his great surprise, found that he was able to get ideas that he never would have thought of, except that he allowed these other viewpoints from people he respected. Pretty neat huh? Do you think his confidence level rose? Do you think he felt like a Star, better equipped to handle his life? You betcha!

There are many kinds of MasterMinds, just go wild with it and find one that suits you best: ToastMasters International, Prayer/Devotional groups, Bible Studies, Meditation classes, Martial Arts…the list is endless.  They work as long as you all have the same goal and that goal in general is for the betterment of something or someone. The point is these can all be used consciously by you as a MasterMind, and you can use the combined power to help you accomplish your goals so much faster and easier. Try it!
